I have been exploring some great little walks/hikes for students and families to enjoy. Put away your technological toys and get out and enjoy nature. One of the closest outdoor walking experiences is located on road 223. Go up Road 426 until you come to Road 223 and turn left onto 223(towards the Forks Restaurant). Approximately .5 miles up on the right and you will see a small dirt pull out and a green Forestry Gate. Park in the pull out and head through the gate. On this trail you can enjoy a 2 to 4 mile hike. If you enjoy an easy stroll the 2 miles will take you about 25-35 minutes, but if you are more energetic and want to jog expect about 14-25 minutes depending on your speed. The 2 mile turn around can be identified by mountain bike trails going up Goat Mountain to the right and down towards Bass Lake on the left. If you took the right hand trail you would head up Goat Mountain, but if you chose the right hand trail you would go down to Bass Lake. If you want to go the entire 4 mile round trip keeping on the trail until you reach the next green Forestry gate. The 4 mile round trip could take between an hour and an hour and thirty minutes depending on your speed. If you feel energized and want to jog or run expect anywhere from 32-50 minutes depending on your fitness level.
This year I will be adding links to websites that might interest you and your family in getting out side and keeping fit. I will also include some how-to clips on flexibility moves we will be utilizing during PE. I plan to work with students on flexibility every Monday. Be sure to wear clothing that allows for stretching, bending, and flexibility moves. I would suggest wearing sweats or shorts, and a shirt that fits at the waist so it will not hang loose and make anyone feel uncomfortable. Comfy workout clothing would be the best bet.
